POETRY:

Carl Sandburg - The Poem

Carl sandburg was a man of great importance.

Carl was never a jarl.

He Lived long for a poet,

and long for a man aswell.

Whether he was writing poems or books,

his writing was all the same, yet so different.

whether his writing was tame or wild, it was all deliberate.

The Life of carl sandburg was something truly imcomparable.

Although his life is ended,

(luckily it wasn't by knife)

his life lives on in his writing.

Text taken from Reagan's adress to the nation after the explosion of the challenger and John F. Kennedy's we choose to go to the moon speech.

We've Grown used to wonders in this century.

It's hard to dazzle us

Yet the united states space program has been doing just that

We've grown used to the idea of space

We're still pioneers

the members of the Challenger crew, were pioneers

It's all part of taking a chance and expanding man's horizons.

The future doesn't belong to the fainthearted, it belongs to the brave;

So it is not surprising that some would have us stay where we are a little longer, to rest, to wait.

The challenger crew was pulling us into the future

We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them,

this morning, they prepared for the journey and waved goodbye to 'slip the surly bonds of earth' and 'touch the face of god'.

If this capsuled history of our progress teaches us anything, it is that man in his quest for knowledge and progress is determined and cannot be deterred.

And therefore, We'll continue our quest in space. There will be more shuttle flights and more shuttle crews and, yes, more volunteers, more civilians, more teachers in space. Nothing ends here; our hopes and our journeys continue.
